Pachmarhi: In Hindi Pachmarhi word came from Panch (five) and marhi (caves) it has 5 Pandav caves said to be used by Pandavas during exile period in Mahabharat. Pachmarhi is accidently rediscovered by James Forsyth a British army man and he was surprised to see the beauty of the place. It was used by British’s as their summer retreat and is made summer capital of central province.

Pachmarhi is a unique place in the sense it not only a hill station, it’s a national park, it’s a historical place and it’s also a pilgrimage. 

Pachmarhi is situated in Satpura Ranges at a elevation of 1100 meters and is called Satpura ki rani (The queen of Satpura) . The beautiful Satpura ranges and its peak no:1: Dhoopgarh and peak no: 2 Chauragarh can be early visited from Pachmarhi

This Hill station has numerous waterfalls which flow thru out the years such as Bee falls, duchess falls, Apsara Vihar and Rajat Prapat to name a few.

Pachmarhi is part if Pachmarhi Biosphere and is surrounded all over by Satpura national park (Satpura Tiger reserve), bori Sanctuary.

UNESCO added the Pachmarhi area to its list of Biosphere Reserves in May 2009, due to the many rare plant species in the vicinity. The total area of Pachmarhi Biosphere Reserve is 4981.72 km2,. The reserve spans parts of three civil districts, viz; Hoshangabad (59.55%), Chhindwara (29.19%) and Betul (11.26%). It includes three wildlife conservation units viz., Bori Sanctuary 485.72 km2), Satpura National Park (524.37 km2) and Pachmarhi Sanctuary (491.63 km2).

Pachmarhi name is derived from the five caves. Apart from this Rock Paintings in Mahadeo and satpura hills are common though it is difficult ot access.

Mahadeo hills also said to be the place where bhasmasur was killed after Vishnu turned himself as mohini and during dance bhasmasur kept his hand on his head and burn.

Madha dev caves in Pachmarhi is also very adventures and historical place

Pachmarhi has got n number of Shiva temples which are made by nature in caves made by satpura / mahadeo hills.

Shiv Ratri and Nag panchmi mela are grand affairs in Pachmarhi and it is packed with Bhakts for 10 days in each mela.

Jatashankar, Mahadev, Chauragarh and Gupt Mahadev are some are the famous natural temples of Pachmarhi.

Pachmarhi is situated on the top of Satpura arranges with all over Satpura jungle. Thus, its air is pure and oxygen level is very high so it is used as health retreat and mind and body rejuvenate. It was favourite place of Dr Rajendra Prasad and also was summer capital of central province and Madhya Pradesh due to this reason.
